Arena
An arena is a large indoor venue — typically holding 10,000-20,000+ people — used for concerts, sporting events, and other large-scale entertainment. Arena touring represents a significant step up in production complexity, crew size, and logistics compared to theater or club tours.
Arena touring logistics
Arena shows involve larger production (full rigging, extensive lighting and video, larger PA systems), bigger crews (40-100+ people), multiple trucks and buses, longer load-in and load-out times, and more complex advancing. The tour manager and production manager work as a team — neither could manage an arena tour alone.
Arena vs. theater vs. club
Club tours (100-1,000 capacity) are lean — one bus, one truck, small crew. Theater tours (1,000-5,000) add production complexity. Arena tours (10,000+) are full-scale operations. Each level up means more people, more equipment, longer setup times, and bigger budgets. The fundamentals (advancing, day sheets, settlement) stay the same — the scale changes everything else.
