Drop Count

A drop count refers to the number of people who actually enter the venue — as opposed to the number of tickets sold in advance. If a show sells 1,000 tickets in advance but only 900 people scan their tickets at the door, the drop count is 900. The difference between tickets sold and actual attendance matters for the promoter and can affect things like catering quantities, security staffing, and overall show-day planning.

Why drop count matters

Drop count gives the touring team and promoter a real-time picture of how many people are actually in the building. It helps with settlement reconciliation and provides useful data for future routing — if a market consistently has a high drop-off between tickets sold and actual attendance, that's worth knowing.
