Guarantee (Concert)
A guarantee is the fixed minimum payment an artist receives for performing a show, regardless of ticket sales. It's the baseline — the amount the promoter agrees to pay even if the venue is half empty.
How guarantees work
The guarantee is negotiated between the booking agent and the promoter before the show is confirmed. It's based on the artist's draw (expected ticket sales), the market, the venue, and the overall tour economics. The guarantee is documented in the deal memo and confirmed during settlement.
Guarantee vs. versus deal
A flat guarantee means the artist gets a fixed amount, full stop. A "versus" deal means the artist gets either the guarantee or a percentage of net ticket revenue — whichever is higher. If the show overperforms, the artist earns more than the guarantee. If it underperforms, the guarantee is the floor. Most mid-to-large tours work on versus deals.
Guarantee vs. door deal
A door deal is different — there's no guaranteed minimum, and the artist's payment is based entirely on actual ticket sales (or a percentage of door revenue). Door deals are more common in clubs and smaller venues where the promoter can't absorb the risk of a guarantee.
