Rigger

A rigger is the person in charge of making sure rigging is set up safely and correctly. They climb into the venue's ceiling structure (the "steel") to attach motors, cables, and hardware to designated rigging points. Rigging can be complicated depending on the venue, and the rigger's expertise is critical to safety — bad rigging can result in catastrophic accidents.

How riggers work

The rigger reviews the venue's rigging plot (certified point locations and weight capacities) during the production advance, then supervises the physical rigging during load-in. Head riggers coordinate with the touring production manager and local rigging crew to ensure every point is within its weight limit and properly secured.
