Turnover
Turnover (used interchangeably with changeover in most contexts) refers to the transition period between acts when the stage setup shifts from one performer's configuration to the next. The outgoing gear gets struck, the incoming stage plot goes up, and the line check happens — all within a tight window.
Turnover timing
Turnover times are set during the advance and locked into the day sheet. Club shows might allow 15-20 minutes. Festivals typically run 20-30 minutes. Arena shows can have 30-45 minutes for more complex transitions. The stage manager keeps the clock.
When turnovers go wrong
A turnover that runs long eats into the next act's set time or pushes the schedule toward curfew. Common problems: the outgoing band takes too long clearing personal gear, the incoming backline has an issue, or a technical problem surfaces during the line check. Experienced crews plan for these contingencies.
