Crew Bus

A crew bus is a tour bus designated for the production crew — the audio, lighting, video, backline, and other technical staff who keep the show running. On larger tours, the crew rides separately from the artist and band, who travel on the artist bus.

When tours use crew buses

Single-bus tours are common for smaller acts — everyone shares one bus. As tours grow, the personnel count exceeds one bus's capacity (typically 12 bunks), and a crew bus is added. Arena and stadium tours might run two or three crew buses plus an artist bus. The split usually follows the A Party / B Party structure.

Crew bus life

Crew buses are functional, not glamorous. Standard 12-bunk sleepers with a front lounge, bunks in the middle, and a back lounge. The crew bus atmosphere tends to be more relaxed and rowdy than the artist bus — movie nights, card games, and the kind of camaraderie that comes from spending months together in a rolling tube.
