Gold / Platinum Tour

Gold and platinum designations for tours are revenue milestones — borrowed from the record industry's certification system but applied to touring grosses. While there's no single official certification body for tour revenue (unlike RIAA for album sales), the terms are used informally and by organizations like Pollstar to mark significant touring achievements.

What the milestones mean

Usage varies, but generally: a "gold tour" has crossed a significant gross revenue threshold, and a "platinum tour" has crossed an even higher one. Pollstar publishes year-end rankings of the highest-grossing tours, and the biggest tours gross hundreds of millions of dollars annually.

Why it matters

Gold and platinum tour designations are marketing and credibility signals — used in press releases, on social media, and in negotiations for future tours. For booking agents and management, a platinum-touring artist commands higher guarantees and better deal terms.
