Local Support
A local support act is a regional artist added to a specific show — typically to help sell more tickets in that market. If a tour is coming through a city and ticket sales aren't where the promoter wants them, a local support act with a following in that area may get added to the bill.
How local support works
The local support plays that one show only — they're not part of the tour and don't travel with the rest of the acts. They typically get a short set, a basic line check rather than a full soundcheck, and minimal rider accommodations. The arrangement is usually between the promoter and the local act's booking agent.
Local support vs. touring support
A support act travels with the tour for a full run or a portion of it. Local support is one-off — added market by market to boost ticket sales.
