Runner
A runner is a person provided by the venue or promoter to assist the touring party with local logistics on show day — driving people to and from the venue, picking up supplies, making pharmacy or store runs, and generally being the local expert who knows where everything is.
What runners do
Runners handle whatever the tour manager needs: airport pickups, hotel-to-venue shuttles, food runs when catering falls short, supply pickups (batteries, gaff tape, a very specific brand of tea), local restaurant recommendations, and sometimes after-show logistics. Good runners anticipate needs before being asked.
How runners are arranged
The rider typically specifies the need for a runner (or multiple runners) with a reliable vehicle. This is confirmed during the venue advance. The runner's name, phone number, and vehicle info go on the day sheet so the whole team knows who to call.
Why runners matter
Touring crews are strangers in a new city every day. A runner who knows the local area saves the team hours of figuring things out — where the nearest urgent care is, which coffee shop is open at 6am, how to navigate the one-way streets around the venue. The best runners become local legends in touring circles.
