Splitter Van
A splitter van is a large van or small truck with a partition splitting the interior into a passenger section (front) and a cargo section (rear). It's the step between a regular van and a tour bus — designed for smaller touring acts who need to carry gear and people in one vehicle.
When splitter vans make sense
Splitter vans are the workhorse of club and small-venue touring. They're cheaper than renting a bus and trailer, carry 4-8 passengers plus a full backline, and can navigate tighter streets and smaller venue parking lots. They're common in the UK and European touring circuits where distances are shorter.
The trade-off
Splitter vans don't have bunks, showers, or lounges. Long drives mean sitting upright. Gear is accessible but not as protected as in a proper truck. For touring acts building up from the van-and-trailer stage, the splitter is a practical middle ground — less romantic than a tour bus, more professional than a minivan with a U-Haul.
