Local Crew

Local crew are the stagehands, electricians, riggers, and other workers hired by the venue or promoter for load-in and load-out at a specific show. Stagehands help with moving equipment, running cables, and general stage setup and teardown. They're not part of the touring party — they work that venue or that market.

How local crew is arranged

The number of local hands is specified in the technical rider and confirmed during the advance. Call times for local crew are negotiated based on production complexity and, in larger venues, union rules (IATSE). The touring production manager directs local crew through setup and teardown.

Why local crew matters

Touring crews can't do load-in and load-out alone — the volume of gear on arena and stadium shows requires dozens of additional hands. Even on club tours, venue-provided stagehands help move gear and run cables. Getting the right number of local crew at the right time is a key part of the advance.
