Tour Director

A tour director is a senior role overseeing the entire tour operation, typically found on large-scale productions. The tour director may not be at all of the shows on the tour, especially if they're overseeing multiple tours at the same time. The tour director may oversee multiple tour managers, coordinate between the artist's management, the production company, and the touring team, and make high-level decisions about logistics, budget, and scheduling.

Tour director vs. tour manager

On smaller tours, there is no tour director — the tour manager handles everything. The tour director role appears when tours reach a scale where the operational complexity requires someone above the day-to-day TM role — managing the big picture while TMs handle execution.
